An appliance node that is the central point of control for processing queries on the SQL Server PDW appliance, receiving the user query, creating a distributed query plan, communicating relevant plan operations and data to Compute nodes, receiving Compute node results, performing any necessary aggregation of results, and then returning the query results to the user.
